Home owners who own B-hyve smart hose faucet sprinkler timers.

OVERVIEW

B-hyve mobile app

B-hyve is a smart sprinkler timer app that allows you to control or monitor your sprinklers from anywhere in the world with the convenience of your iOS and android smart device.

PROBLEM

Home owners didn't know how to put their devices in pairing mode.

The existing onboarding was confusing for home owners because they weren't able to identify if they had a Hose Faucet Timer Gen 1 with a Hub Gen 1 or Hub Gen 2.

Orbit B-hyve Gen 1 hose faucet timers are not compatible with Gen 2 hubs, and conversely, older Gen 1 hubs won't work with newer Gen 2 timers.

SOLUTION

Educate home owners on how to set their devices on pairing mode in the onboarding process.

Provide hand-holding support in the onboarding process to help home owners identify the compatibility between B-hyve hose faucet timers and B-hyve Wi-Fi hubs.

Allow home owners to create a program in the onboarding process.

Make it easy for home owners to create a program or to turn smart watering in the onboard process.

Remote Users interview Insights

Home owners don't understand that their B-hyve hose faucet timer is not compatible with their B-hyve Wi-Fi hub.
In the existing onboarding we don't have any information about hose faucet timer and hubs compatibility.
Home owners get stuck at the beginning of the existing onboarding process when we ask them to put their device on pairing mode. They don't know how to put the device in pairing mode and the app can't find the device.

Testing Insights

Home owner's were able to completed the onboarding process.
Home owner's learned to set their hose faucet timers in pairing mode from the onboarding process.
I noticed that some users would try to onboard more than 1 hose facet timer at the same time.

Results

In October 2024, we launch the new B-hyve hose faucet timer onboarding process and home owners seem to enjoy it. Since October 2024 the volume of calls due to "hose faucet timers onboarding issues" has lower by 78%.

Connectivity issues are still a problem, people seem to forget that their B-hyve Wi-Fi hub can only reach around 150 ft (Solid walls between the Wi-Fi Hub and the Hose faucet timer affect the connectivity)

Some user's are trying to onboard many hose faucet timers at the same time and that's not supported on the B-hyve app at this moment.

Other user's are trying to control many hose faucet timers at the same time from a single program and that's not supported on the B-hyve app.
